Things about opencourseware......

It actually starts with University of Tübingen in Germany.

It only became popular with the launch of MIT OpenCourseWare at MIT in October 2002...

It was made able thanks to advance of internet technology, such as server, bandwidth etc.

Till now, not so many University offer its courseware content free online....

Most of the university that offer OCW(open courseware) was based in America....

Even so, content shared is still limited.... ( i.e. video lecture limited to certain course and certain lecture only )

For some course( like humanities or socialogy) , open discussion in class still the best way to learn.

Non of Uk top university offer open courseware to the public....

One of the few times, we are better than Singaporean, ( one of the few times only....)

There is these two economists called Raymond Fishman and Edward Miguel.
They had written a book name Economic Gangsters---Corruption , Violence and the poverty of Nations. .

They tried to find some ingenious way to measure a country's culture against corruption, for example, giving some people from the country with a law break immunity and see how will they act according to it.

The measures, taken for UN diplomats in highly congested New York city, to see how much parking violation the Diplomats from each country commit.

As a results, our neighbour Singaporean , ends up with 3.6 violations per diplomats.
While we, Malaysian, proudly commit violations of 1.4 per diplomats.

Although the corruption index for singapore is -2.50 during time of measures and Malaysian is -0.73 ( the more negative the better ) .

And, skipped the money if you want to bought the book as it just academic reports only.... :)

I have just come across this info that one of the JPA Scholars - Yeoh Yen Kee, SPM 2007, who was supposed to go to Czech Republic to study medicine, had to forgo her dream to be a doctor, due to leukemia.

Good news, i have an ac.uk email account and would be eligible to buy the software at just 30 pound.

Question , as i already have a legitimate windows xp copy, whats the point of spending 30 pounds more? for a fancier interface? mayb....

To be honest, there is no way a laptop can match the processing power of a gaming desktop. Even if you can do that, it often come with a cost of spending more bucks on a huge size laptop. ( which lost the point of easily carrying it around )

So , after long suffering the reduced quality when playing games using my Dell Inspiron 6400, i decided to go for a desktop when back to Uk.

my plan set :
processor : intel i5 720 2.66ghz， (can overclock to 3.2ghz)
Ram : 4gb DDr3
Hdd : 500 GB
GPU : Ati radeon 4870 1GB
monitor : 23" acer x233 Hbd
cost : 800 gbp.

it wont be the best, but it sure give decent gaming experience and flexible update option over the next 3 year.

My dream Set however would be....
processor : intel i7 975 extreme...
Ram : 12 Gb DDr3 1600
Hdd : 2 TB
GPU : 4 x Nvidia GTX 295 1792 mb
monitor : any 30" ++
cost : >>> 7000 GBP....

真的有这么大只蛤蟆通街跳？On Swoopo...

Last 2 day i was looking for any cheap deal for Apple Iphone, when i came across this.

A brand new Iphone 3g 16G is up for grab now!! just bid and you will get a chance to buy it with a greatly discounted time. But wait....

Each bid will cost u 50p, further more, the end time automatically extend when a person bid, so you might need suveral bid to secure ur deal , which sometime cost u several hundred pound like the last winner....

For the auctioner, they sure gain hell lot! Consider an auction price starts from 0.01 GBP, and end up with 200++. Multiply this figure by 50 , 10000++ will be the auctioner income!!!

Furthermore, people who need to bid will need to buy a 10pound bid package. Although the auctioner promised to cash back 10 pound for the bid, as several people will buy it, it end up only few people will get their cash back.

AND, most importantly, people involved in it will be addicted, as first 10 pound you spent on the bid cost u expected to be free ( from the cash back reward on first winning auction ), u will definitely spend more, especially you are bidding on huge discounted item like the Iphone. Thus, you either stop early or end up keep on bidding, as you already spent a lot on bidding and you dont wanna end up wasting all ur previous bid.

At the end, the auction probably stop when all the other parties can't or not willing to follow up as the auction price is too high. If we plus the bidding cost together, the winner probably spent more than he just bought a Iphone from the retail store.

As conclusion, this is actually another form of gambling, only difference is, gambling actually held higher percentage to win compared to this !

Watching the video make me totally sick,
not only to those Malaysian, but to those Immigration Staff as well.

From the video, it was clear that they got money to spent in a week. They knew where to go. They gt one friend who knows English. But they are suspicious because one of them confuses Paris and London.

ON the other way, the immigrant officer are kind of stupid and little bit arrogant.

First thing you want to know whether a tourist will be illegal immigrant is checked for their return airticket. Clearly the immigration officer didnt shown to do so.

Secondly, looking at the record of the previous passport and passport holding now. Make a note on the date and place visited. A good record of a man traveling lots of country shows high possibility of a tourist, not an illegal immigrant.

学一下英文吧， 虽然政府告诉我们马来文如何重要， 出到国外， 尤其是英语系的国家， 英语才是王道。 既然有钱去那么多国家旅行， 为什么不投资下自己， 学学英文。

With much suspend remain ( trough not suspend at all coz according to previous plot, The Deimon Devil Bat will definitely win the christmas bowl) .... I Have to wait another whole long week to see the final ending....

Pretty usual, go class at 10, having tutorial, etc.

Tuesday,
Went to sainsbury afternoon, Chin bought 5 kg of potatoes with 1.29 pound. The beginning of potato feast carnival.....

Wednesday,
Day off due to commemoration day, sleep the whole day....

Thursday,
Another half day with 2 lectures at the morning, evening went for poker society, to learn how to play poker XD.....

Friday,
Skip one lecture this morning, went for EWB ( Engineering without border) uk national conference at peak district , sheffield, evening. The journey take 5 hours, Omg. Meet a guy named Tom working in Glasgrow, a consultant firm related to water and sanitation system.

Saturday, Still at peak district sheffield.

Sunday, going back imperial at the evening, another 5 hr trip...OmG!

The clocks turn back one hour during sunday morning, kind of weird......
